Women’s Basketball Falls, 57-45, at Bloomfield

Goldey-Beacom endured a tough go on the offensive side and was dealt a 57-45 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference loss at Bloomfield in Bloomfield, NJ.
 
The Bears in the first half gained an 18-9 advantage on the scoreboard in both quarters for a 36-18 halftime lead.  Deja McKenzie almost took over by herself, pouring in 13 points on 6-of-12 shooting and hauling in nine rebounds over 16 minutes for Bloomfield, which shot 50 percent (15-of-30) from the field.
 
Junior Amanda McGrogan (Mount Laurel, NJ) amassed eight points and five rebounds for the Lightning. 
 
Goldey-Beacom (8-9, 4-4 CACC) in the third quarter turned it up on the defensive end, limiting Bloomfield to just 31 percent shooting (4-of-13) from the field and forcing it into six turnovers.
 
But the Bears held on by shooting 42 percent (5-of-12) in the fourth quarter, owning a 57-34 cushion with 2:39 remaining.
 
Goldey-Beacom sophomore Alanna Speaks (St Elizabeths) closed with 10 points and a career-high 14 rebounds for her second double-double of the season.  McGrogan also ended with 10 points.
 
McKenzie had 20 points and 13 rebounds with Jaylah Bennett and Bobbi Floyd netting 11 points apiece for the Bears (4-13, 3-5), who shot 44 percent (24-of-55) from the floor.
 
Goldey-Beacom next Tuesday plays at 11th-ranked University of the Sciences.  The game in Philadelphia begins at 5:30 pm, which precedes the men's 7:30 contest between the same schools.
