MADEIRA BEACH, Fla. –
Delaware rallied from three runs down in the top of the seventh but Belmont scored the winning run in the bottom of the frame as the Bruins edged the Blue Hens, 5-4, Sunday afternoon in UD's final game of the Madeira Beach Invitational.

Belmont (4-1) opened the scoring in the bottom of the third inning when Bailey Sims and Baylee Cook hit back to back RBI doubles, before Anna Steinmetz put Delaware (4-4) on the board in the top of the fourth by clubbing her second home run of the year.

Alicia Veltri belted a two-run shot in the bottom of the sixth to put the Bruins up 4-1, but the Blue Hens rallied in their final at bat.

After a walk by Sarah Coyne (St Georges) and singles by Ali Davis and Hanna Garber loaded the bases with one out, Halle Kisamore delivered a two-run single to make it a one-run game. Steinmetz then followed with a single to leftcenter, driving home Garber to bring the Blue Hens even. Delaware still had runners on second and third with one away, but could not push across the go-ahead run.

Belmont then loaded the bases with one out in the bottom half on an infield single, error and intentional walk, before Blue Hen pitcher Katie Stahre (Lake Forest) hit Hayley Baker with a pitch to force home the winning run.

Steinmetz finished 2 for 3 at the plate with two RBI, while Garber and Davis also finished with two hits on the day.

UD starting pitcher Sarah Piening took the loss after allowing four runs on six hits in 4.1 innings of work, while Stahre gave up one run on two hits during two frames in the circle.
