Anna Steinmetz cracked a three-run homer while Sarah Piening picked up her second consecutive complete game victory as Delaware defeated Charleston, 4-2, Sunday afternoon at Patriots Point to capture the teams' weekend series.

After the teams split a doubleheader on Saturday, the Blue Hens' victory gives them their first series victory over Charleston in the six years since the Cougars joined the CAA.

The Blue Hens (21-26, 7-11 CAA) scored all the runs they would need in the top of the first, as after Halle Kisamore doubled and Brooke Glanden (Lake Forest) singled with one out, Steinmetz belted a pitch over the fence in leftcenter to give Delaware an early three-run lead.

Steinmetz leads UD with eight home runs this year, as she increased her school-record total to 46 round-trippers.

Charleston (22-28, 6-12 CAA) got on the board in the bottom of the first on an RBI single by Chandler Sparkman, while Dexlie Inman hit a solo homer to lead off the fifth to make it a 3-2 game.

Delaware added an insurance run in the top of the seventh as Hanna Garber led off with a walk, moved to second on a Kisamore sacrifice bunt, and scored when Glanden crushed a double to leftcenter.

The Cougars put the tying runners on base with a pair of two-out singles in the bottom half, but Piening then got Brittany Vicary to fly out to centerfield to seal the victory.

Piening earned her 13th win of the season after allowing two runs on seven hits while striking out two batters. Steinmetz led the offensive attack by going 2 for 3 with the homer, and needs one hit to reach the 200-hits mark for her career. Glanden and Karolina Flores also had two hits on the day for the Blue Hens, while Kisamore added one.
