NEWARK, Del. – In their first Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference matchup of the season, the Wilmington University women's soccer team defeated Felician, 2-0 Saturday afternoon at the WU Athletics Complex.

Wilmington (2-3, 1-0 CACC) would get off five shots within the first 19 minutes of the game, including back-to-back chances by Samantha Emmi and Cassidy McErlain, but the Golden Falcons (1-2, 0-1 CACC) defense wouldn't allow a goal. Just before the 20 minute mark into the game, Emmi would find the back of the net off of a free kick from Kasie Lambert for her first goal of the season to give WilmU the 1-0 lead.

Freshman Justine Sommer would have a chance on goal just before the half to try and give the Wildcats a 2-0 lead, as she got off a shot from outside the top of the box but the Golden Falcons' goalkeeper was able to get a hand on it to send the ball over the net for a corner.

Felician would get off just their second shot of the game in the opening minutes of the second half, as WilmU had possession for majority of the game. The Wildcats would have a chance again in the 60th minute, but Cassidy McErlain's header would sail wide left while Jessica Unsihuay (St Georges) had a shot that was blocked.

With just four minutes left to play in regulation, Sammie Bennett made a low cross to Rockesha Dayes on the right side inside the box, where she beat the defender to score her second goal in two games.

Wilmington would have 14 shots on goal compared to Felician's three, while having eight corners.

Freshman Samantha Emmi would score her first collegiate goal, while other freshmen Kasie Lambert and Sammie Bennett collected their first assists of their Wildcats' careers. Emily Camp would make one save in the net for the Wildcats, to improve to 2-3 on the season.

Wilmington will head to Lakewood, N.J. on Wednesday afternoon as they take on Georgian Court. Opening whistle is set for 3:00 p.m.
