RICHMOND, Va. – VCU freshman guard Bones Hyland (St Georges) was named Atlantic 10 Conference Rookie of the Week Monday on the heels of the best two-game stretch of his collegiate career.

Hyland scored career highs in back-to-back games last week on the way to Monday's honor. He averaged 18.5 points and 5.5 rebounds. It's Hyland's second A-10 Rookie of the Week citation thiss season.

The 6-foot-3 Hyland supplied 16 points for the Rams in their game at 13th-ranked Dayton on Jan. 14, then followed up with a 21-point effort in VCU's 91-63 win over St. Bonaventure on Jan. 18. He shot 57 percent (13-of-23) from the floor, including 7-of-12 from beyond the 3-point arc. He also grabbed a career-high eight rebounds against the Bonnies.

Hyland's 21 points were the most by a VCU true freshman since Terry Larrier scored 21 against Maryland Eastern-Shore on Nov. 20, 2014. The Wilmington, Del. native is averaging 7.7 points per game this season and has hit a team-leading 30 three-pointers.

VCU and Hyland return to the floor on Tuesday, Jan. 21 when they take on Saint Joseph's at Hagan Arena in Philadelphia, Pa.
