Tyler Hill was a three sport standout athlete at the Delaware Military Academy. Hill was drafted by the Boston Red Sox with their 20th pick in the 19th round of the 2014 June Draft. In his senior season at Delaware Military Academy, he hit .432 with six home runs, 29 runs batted in and 18 stolen bases. Tyler made his minor league debut in the 2015 season with the Gulf Coast League Red Sox. Which is the Boston Red Sox Gulf Coast affiliate team. Tyler will be making his start this season on the Class A short league Lowell Spinners

Tyler took some time out of his busy spring training schedule to allow us to ask him a couple of questions in a short interview to give all of us Delaware fans an update on his experiences with the Boston Red Sox organization.

302-What was your first year like to be playing baseball in the Red Sox organization?

Tyler “My first season after being drafted I tore my hamstring 4 games in so it was rough watching most of the time, but the little time I did have playing I realized I had to step my game up so I used my time watching and observing to my advantage and and took in all the knowledge I could get and luckily I was apart of a championship team”

302-Going into your 2nd year what did you learn from your first season that you want to work on to make you a better player?

Tyler “I learned from my first year that despite my style of play being aggressive I have to slow the game down from time to time and realize that a professional baseball season is a long grind and taking care of your body is the most important part. Along with that I haven't played much outfield in my lifetime I've always been a catcher so I focused heavily on my defensive work and was out at early work every day of spring training with our former outfield coordinator George Lombard who is now the first base coach for the Dodgers, and he helped me understand the fundamentals and importance of anticipation and making the routine plays.”

302- Where are you starting off your spring training this year?

Tyler “I will most likely be attending extended spring training as well this year then possibly with  our short season team the Lowell Spinners. Hopefully I can finish off with the Greenville Drive this season (Class A).”

302- Who is the most famous Red sox player you met?

Tyler “I have met multiple well known names a lot of the major league guys are very down to earth and love younger guys asking questions, guys like Mookie Betts,  Jackie Bradley jr., Hanley Ramirez, Pablo Sandoval. Along with that I'm lucky to learn from a Red Sox hall of famer  Dwight Evans.”

302-What was the best piece of advice you were given from a player or coach in the organization?

Tyler “I would say without a doubt the best advice I've gotten this far is that everyone has their own path of making it to the MLB whether it's a year or 2 years or even 10 years , as long as you do your job and stay positive and patient good things will come and they're recognized.”

302-What would you like to add to all the Delaware fans following you in your MLB career.?

Tyler “I just want to thank you all for the positivity and love you all show me , things like this is what keeps me going even harder and want it even more!

As we were doing more research about Tyler & the Lowell Spinners team we realized that the spinners play the Aberdeen Iron Birds which plays their home games in Cal Ripken Stadium Located in Aberdeen MD at 873 Long Dr, Aberdeen, MD 21001. It's about a 40 minute drive down I95. We would like to thank Tyler for allowing us to conduct this interview. We wish him the best as he continues his voyage to one day accomplishing his dream to one day make it to the big leagues.
