Shepherd Football Tops Urbana; Humphrey Sets Sack Record

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Senior quarterback Connor Jessop (Ashburn, Va./Broad Run/Virginia Tech) completed 16-of-25 passes for 259 yards and four touchdowns and added both a rushing and receiving touchdown to lead Shepherd University (7-0, 7-0 MEC) to a 48-14 win over Urbana (3-4, 2-4 MEC) in MEC football action at Rams Stadium on Saturday. Additionally, senior defensive end Myles Humphrey (Upper Marlboro, Md./Dr. Henry A. Wise) set the Shepherd career sack mark (36, breaks the old mark of 35 held by Howard Jones, 2010-13) with his sack of Tajuan Green in the second quarter.

Urbana took a 7-0 lead when Green teamed with Trevon Saunders on a 75-yard scoring pass with 14:41 left in the first quarter.

Jessop teamed with sophomore tight end DJ Cornish (Felton, Del./Lake Forest) on a four-yard scoring pass with 9:18 left in the first quarter for the Rams.  Senior kicker Zach Wise(Berkeley Springs, W.Va./Berkeley Springs) added the extra point.

Jessop fired a 25-yard scoring strike to junior wide receiver Wanya Allen (Sterling, Va./Potomac Falls) with 8:22 left in the quarter to give the Rams a 14-7 lead.

Shepherd increased its lead to 21-7 when Jessop and Allen teamed on a nine-yard scoring pass with 2:58 left in the first quarter.

Wise connected on a career-long 45-yard field goal with 11:13 left in the second quarter to up the Shepherd lead to 24-7.

Jessop and senior running back Jabre Lolley (Wilmington, Del./St. Mark's) combined on an eight-yard scoring pass with 7:34 left in the second quarter.

Junior wide receiver Ryan Feiss (Forest Hill, Md/North Harford) tossed a six-yard scoring pass to Jessop with 2:44 left in the half to give Shepherd a 38-7 advantage.

Jessop scrambled seven yards for a score with 34 seconds left in the half to give the Rams a 45-7 lead at the break.

Wise added a 23-yard field goal with 3:40 left in the third quarter.

Urbana scored on a 34-yard fumble return by L.A. Green with 3:24 left in the fourth quarter to complete the scoring.

Green completed 13-of-32 passes for 240 yards for Urbana.

Feiss led the Shepherd receivers with four catches for 84 yards, while Cornish added five receptions for 66 yards. Saunders had three receptions for 82 yards for Urbana.

Sophomore running back Patrick Griffin (Seaford, Del./Sussex Tech) led the ground attack with eight carries for 65 yards. Lolley added 10 carries for 63 yards, while Jessop rushed five times for 45 yards. Maurice Warren had seven carries for 22 yards and Trey McFadden added five rushes for 22 yards for the Blue Knights.

Shepherd gained 479 yards of total offense, while Urbana had 282.

Freshman linebacker Chrys Lane (Baltimore, Md./Dunbar) records a team-high six tackles (all solos) for the Rams. Senior linebacker James Gupton (Waldorf, Md./North Point) added five solo stops, while senior defensive end Bruno Anyangwe (Hanover, Md./Clarksburg) added four tackles and a pair of sacks. Duray Hall had a game-high 10 tackles (8 solos) and Kelly added nine stops (six solos) to lead Urbana.
