SHIPPENSBURG, Pa.-The West Chester University Golden Rams (15-6) have won the PSAC Field Hockey Tournament Championship!  West Chester capped off a great run through the PSAC tournament by defeating No. 2 East Stroudsburg (17-4) 3-0 on Sunday afternoon inside the Robb Sports Complex on the campus of Shippensburg University. This afternoons victory is the Golden Rams third straight over a ranked opponent as they defeated No. 10 Bloomsburg in the quarterfinals, No. 1 Shippensburg in the semifinals, and No. 2 East Stroudburg this afternoon.

West Chester opened the scoring just 10 minutes into the game when tournament MVP Rachal Toppi (Glassboro, N.J./Glassboro) scored her first goal of the game off an assist from Kelsey Munster (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield)  to give West Chester the early 1-0 lead. West Chester was not done as just ten minutes later Kaitlin Hatch (Sewell,N.J./Washington Twp.)  tallied a goal of her own off an assist from Emily Evans (Newark, De./St. Marks) to make the score 2-0 West Chester with 15 minutes left in the half.
In the second half West Chester continued to apply pressure and they saw this pay dividends in the 63rd minute when Toppi collected a blocked shot and deposited it in the back of the net to give West Chester a comfortable 3-0 lead with just seven minutes left in regulation. West Chester defense worked hard in the closing minutes and managed to prevent East Stroudsburg from recording a shot in the final 23 minutes of play as the last ESU shot came in the 47th minute when Karisa Turners shot skittered wide.

The West Chester defense played tough all day as they only allowed ESU to six shots with only three finding their way on goal all of which were gobbled up by Marissa Elizardo (North Wales, Pa./North Penn) who had another strong day between the pipes recording her third shutout of the tournament. The Golden Rams recorded nine shots including five shots on goal in the victory.

The NCAA selection show will be held Monday afternoon.
