Women’s Soccer Falls to ESU in PSAC Championship, 1-0

WEST CHESTER, Pa. – No. 3 East Stroudsburg (15-3-3) won its fourth consecutive Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) title this afternoon, defeating top seeded West Chester (16-3-1), 1-0, in the championship match.

How it Happened
 

  • Sr., GK McKenna Mullin (Langhorne, Pa./Neshaminy) helped West Chester stay scoreless early on as East Stroudsburg's Monica Wood had a golden opportunity to take the lead at 20:50. Mullin made a diving save to keep the Golden Rams in it.
  • It was scoreless at the half with each squad having its fair share of opportunities.
  • West Chester applied constant pressure in the second half, but it was East Stroudsburg who tallied the lone goal of the match at the 76:42 mark.
  • Haley Skove netted the game winner off a deflection in front of the goal. It happened to occur off a free kick with being Jessica Woodyrne credited with the assist.

Inside the Numbers
 
  • West Chester had chances with a 13-8 advance in shots. In terms of shots on goal, they also had a 7-6 edge.
  • The Golden Rams managed to generate seven corner kicks, compared to East Stroudsburg's one.
  • Overall, Mullin produced five saves, while allowing the lone goal of the match.
  • Sr., GK Jules Harris provided East Stroudsburg with the shutout, registering seven saves in 90 minutes of action. She was tremendous, stopping a pair of shots by Linzi Wolfe (Quakertown, Pa./Quakertown) at point blank range.

  • Receiving tournament MVP was ESU's Harris for her performance in-between the pipes.
  • West Chester is now possess a 16-11-4 all-time record in the PSAC Tournament. The Golden Rams went 2-1 this week with wins over Bloomsburg and Gannon University.
  • The squad now must wait for the NCAA announcement, which will be made on Monday at 3 p.m.
