WEST CHESTER, Pa.-

Following an upset 1-0 victory over No .1 Shippensburg the West Chester University Golden Rams will compete for the PSAC field hockey tournament title opposite the East Stroudsburg Warriors on Sunday afternoon at Shippensburg.

West Chester toppled Shippensburg in the semifinals off the strength of a goal from Caitlyn Kelly thanks to an assist from Kaitlin Hatch in the 19th minute giving WCU the one goal lead. Junior goalie Marissa Elizardo recorded her fifth shutout of the season and second of the tournament to preserve the slim one goal advantage. Shippensburg pressed hard throughout the second half outshooting the Golden Rams by a 10-7 margin but West Chester's defense stood tall to keep the normally explosive Shippensburg offense off the scoreboard.

In the other semifinal ESU topped Millersville by a score of 3-1 to make the PSAC title game for the second time in the past three years. Junior forward Bailey Quinn scored a pair of goals in the victory while fellow junior Makenna Marhefka scored a goal of her own propelling ESU to the 3-1 victory over Millersville.

West Chester and East Stroudsburg met once already this season back on October 17th when East Stroudsburg won 2-0 over West Chester. Kelli Shapiro scored twice in the second half to propel East Stroudsburg to the 2-0 victory over the Golden Rams.

East Stroudsburg's last championship appearance came back in the 2015 season when the Warriors defeated Millersville 1-0. West Chester's last appearance came at the end of the 2014 season when they defeated Millersville by a score of 3-0.

West Chester and Head Coach Amy Cohen have won the PSAC title twice since making the move to Division II in 2011.
