Second Half Run Carries LVC Past Alvernia, 82-58

Reading, Pa. (Jan. 20, 2018) - Lebanon Valley College (12-6, 6-3) started the second half with a 19-2 run on its way to an 82-58 win over Alvernia University (8-10, 3-6) Saturday afternoon in MAC Commonwealth men's basketball action at Jack McCloskey Court.

The Dutchmen opened the second half with a layup from Sam Light, then after a pair of free throws from Alvernia freshman Kyle Gordon, LVC ran off 17 straight points to take control.

The Golden Wolves went 0-for-7 from the floor with a pair of turnovers during the five minutes stretch that left the Dutchmen with a 52-29 lead.  The lead stayed at 20 or more the rest of the way.

Light finished with a game-high 28 points and Andy Orr had 26.  Alvernia got a team-high 20 points from sophomore Nick Youngkin, 11 points and 10 boards from Gordon, and 10 points from Alex Shippen.

LVC put together the first significant run of the day scoring 11 straight points midway through the first half to take a 23-13 lead.  The two post players, Orr and Andrew Eberhart scored four points apiece and Light capped it with a jumper.

Youngkin scored the next six for the Golden Wolves and Calil Moultrie added a bucket during an 8-2 run that cut the gap back down to four points, 25-21.  It was down to one point following a Keon Taylor (Mount Pleasant) free throw, but LVC scored six of the last seven points in the half for a 33-27 lead at the break.

Alvernia continues the conference schedule on Wednesday at Hood.
