IU Tops Clarks Summit On The Road, 91-71

CLARKS SUMMIT, Pa.- The men's basketball team (9-9, 6-6 CSAC) evened their CSAC record with a convincing, 91-71 victory over Clarks Summit on the road on Saturday.  The Macs led nearly the entire way and shot almost 50% from the field.
Junior Mike Piekarski (St Elizabeths) led five double figure scorers with 22 points.
-The game was tight early, but the Macs erased their only deficit of the day, 7-6, with a 14-0 run that put them firmly in control the rest of the way
-Will Chapman (Concord) hit back-to-back buckets then assisted a basket to Piekarski before back-to-back three-pointers by Ambrose and a final jumper by Piekarski to make it 20-7 just seven minutes into the game
-The Defenders fought back with an 8-0 run, but the Macs responded with a triple by Chapman
-Clarks Summit whittled the IU advantage down to four points, but a flurry by the Macs at the end of the half gave them a comfortable lead
-Holding a seven point lead at 38-31, IU ripped off 10 straight behind a pair of free throws by Asa Kitchen, layups by Piekarski, Ambrose, Cordell Lord, and Brandon McCullough to make it 48-31
-The Defenders hit a three-pointer with three seconds remaining to make it 48-34 at half
-In the second half, the Mighty Macs pushed their lead over 20 points on back-to-back field goals from Joe McHugh at 62-40 with 16:35 to go
-Midway through the second half, Clarks Summit trimmed the deficit to 13 at 74-61, but the Macs went on a 9-1 run to take a commanding 83-62 lead on their way to finishing off the 20 point victory
-IU was 49.3% (37-for-75) from the field and Clarks Summit was 27-of-54 (50%)
-The Macs were 11-for-22 (50%) from three point range and held the Defenders to 8-for-23 (34.8%)
-IU held a 38-28 advantage in rebounds and held an advantage in turnovers, 23-10
-IU Point Leaders: Piekarski 22, Chapman 12, Ambrose 12, McCullough 10, McHugh 10
-IU Rebound Leaders: Ambrose 7, McHugh 4, Piekarski 4
-IU Assist Leaders: Chapman 4, Ambrose 3
The Mighty Macs will host Rosemont at 8 p.m. on Wednesday evening at Alumnae Hall.
