Sardayah Sambo (Middletown) became just the 12th player in Widener basketball history to clear 1,300 points

(Sambo, Widener)

FREDERICK, Md.Tyler Drews had just the second 40-point game of the season in the MAC as the Widener University men's basketball team toppled the Hood Blazers 104-80 in a MAC Commonwealth matchup on Saturday afternoon.

Drews had his day shooting 15-for-20 from the floor and hit on 10-of-12 shots from beyond the arc. The 10 treys are tied for the ninth most in a single game in Division III this season.

Hood stayed within shouting distance early as Widener held a 14-8 lead just more than five minutes in. The Pride continued to shoot lights out, outscoring the Blazers 42-25 for the remainder of the frame, taking a 56-33 lead into halftime while shooting 66.7 percent in the period.

The Blue and Gold saw the lead swell to as many as 41 in the second half, taking a 92-41 lead with 7:41 remaining. Hood closed the game well, netting 14 of the final 18 points in the contest.
