Pirates Run Out Of Time Against UConn

GREENVILLE, N.C. --- Jalen Adams scored 28 points and made two free throws with 14 second left to give UConn (13-14, 6-8) an 84-80 win over ECU (10-15, 4-10) inside Williams Arena at Minges Coliseum Sunday afternoon.
The Pirates were down eight with 41 seconds to play, but freshman Shawn Williams scored six straight points to bring ECU within two with 14 seconds remaining. Williams then fouled Adams.
The Huskies outscored ECU 29-12 over a 10-minute stretch to turn a nine-point deficit into an eight-point lead with three minutes to play. The Pirates led 58-47 with 14:11 to remaining before trailing 77-69 with 3:03 left in regulation.
Isaac Fleming (William Penn) recorded his second career triple-double finishing with 13 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists. He joins Marshall's Jon Elmore as the only players in the country to have two triple-doubles this season. He recorded his first triple-double 15 days ago against Memphis, which was the first in school history. Fleming is the first player in the history of The American to register multiple triple-doubles in his career.
Adams led all scorers with 26 points on 10-of-18 shooting overall and 4-of-8 from outside the 3-point arc. He was 5-of-7 from the floor in the first half and made 3-of-5 3-point attempts prior to intermission. Adams also distributed six assists and grabbed five rebounds while playing all 40 minutes.
Williams scored 26 points on 7-of-14 shooting, including 6-of-12 outside the arc, and played all 40 minutes. His seven 3-pointers were a career-high and tied the ECU freshman record for 3s in a game. Senior B.J. Tyson had 20 points on 7-of-15 shooting, going 3-of-6 from beyond the arc. Freshman K.J. Davis added eight points and grabbed a career-best seven rebounds off the bench.
UConn shot 58.2 percent from the field (32-55) and ECU connected on 48.3 percent (28-58) of its field goal attempts … The Huskies shot 60.0 percent in the second half, while ECU converted just 43.3 percent of its attempts after halftime … Both teams made a season-high 13 3-pointers … The Pirates won the battle of the boards by eight (32-24) … The Huskies scored 24 points off 13 ECU turnovers, while Pirates scored just 12 points off 11 UConn miscues.
