Softball Picks Up Pair of Wins to Wrap Up Spring Break Trip

CLERMONT, Fla. – The Neumann University softball team picked up two wins to wrap up its annual spring break trip on Friday. The Knights defeated Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in the first game 13-4 in five innings. The bats stayed hot and Neumann defeated Alma College 11-3 in five innings in the second game of the morning.
The Knights had 17 hit in the first game, led by Grace Sperrazza and Bri Lagroteria with three each. Kristina Del Gaiso knocked in five runs.
Taylor Naman got the win, going 5.0 innings. She allowed four runs, three earned, on eight hits.
Neumann got on the board in the second inning as Julia Cox led off with a single. Carli Trice pinch ran and scored on a single by Kierstin Fallers (Padua). Del Gaiso knocked in Taylor Sirolli for a 3-0 lead.
In the next inning, the Knight sent 10 batters to the plate. Del Gaiso hits a bases clearing double and came around to score on an error. Jackie Selby hit a two-run double in the fifth inning as part of four runs to end the game.
In the second game, Neumann avenged a loss to Alma on Thursday with an 11-3 win on Friday. Cox knocked in Sperrazza for the first run of the game. The Scots answered with three runs in the bottom of the first inning.
Neumann tied the game in the third inning. Sperrazza scored on a double by Kara Grogan. Grogan scored on an error later in the inning. Fallers scored a run in the fourth inning on a Del Gaiso single for a 4-3 lead.
The Knights sent 12 batters to the plate as part of a seven run fifth inning. Brooke Figiel hit a two-double in the inning.
Sparrazza and Fallers finished the game with three hits each. Jen Sieminski (Caravel) went 5.0 innings in the circle for the win. She allowed three runs on eight hits.
Neumann (4-3) will return north and head to Stockton on Thursday for a doubleheader. Action is slated to get underway at 3:00 PM.
