302 Sports Field Hockey Top 10 Rankings

Upcoming Games This Week: #5 Indian River at #1 Delmar, Thursday at 4pm Indian River’s only loss has been to Polytech. Delmar is just smoking its opponents.

#6(D1) Concord vs. #8(D2) Mount Pleasant, Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at the Turf Bowl at the University of Delaware. Mount has won five straight after opening the season with two losses, and they are scoring a lot of goals. Concord is a defensive-minded team with a superb goalkeeper. This is a Brandywine School District battle, so these girls all know each other.

#4(D2) Ursuline vs. #3(D1) Padua, Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at the Turf Bowl. Two top-notch goalkeepers will be the key here. Ursuline tends to score a bit more than Padua, but the Pandas have yet to allow a goal this season.

Thoughts or Surprises From Last Week:

On the preview show we mentioned that Tower Hill graduated 80% of its offense.  They didn't let that affect them as they remain unbeaten. They are 5-0 but are led by the defense this year.  They have only given up 2 goals while scoring 14 goals. They aren't the offensive team they were last year but with this defense they could be ready to make another run to the State championship game.

Breakdown of Games:

#6(D1) Concord vs #8(D2) Mount Pleasant

  • Both teams are used to playing on grass how does playing on turf impact both team's

  • Last 10 meetings: Mount Pleasant, 5-3-2. Two of those games have been at the Turf Bowl. Concord’s last win came in 2012.

Upcoming Games This Week:

#7 Wilmington Charter vs. #4 Middletown, Saturday at 7 p.m. at the Turf Bowl.

#7 Wilmington Charter at #3 Padua, Tuesday at 3:45 p.m. at Forbes Field. Charter has won a bunch of close games this year, but can they find the goals against an aggressive Pandas squad?

#5(D2) Indian River at #1(D1) Cape Henlopen, Tuesday at 6 p.m. Second straight road game against a defending state champion for the Indians. They would like to thank their AD.

Thoughts or Surprises:

Padua has not given up a goal so far in their four games and look to keep up that streak when they face a tough Ursuline team this week.  The Pandas’ defense has only allowed 10 shots, this year which is a remarkable number.

Padua has won nine of the last 10, playing the Raiders twice a year for the past five years. Two of those were at the Turf Bowl. In those 10 games, the Raiders have scored a total of 5 goals.
