      (DJ Cornish, Shepherd) KUTZTOWN, Pa. – Seven members of the Shepherd University football team have been named to the 2017 D2CCA All-Super Region 1 Team. Senior quarterback (Ashburn, Va./Broad Run/Virginia Tech), senior defensive end (Upper Marlboro, Md./Dr. Henry A. Wise), senior offensive lineman (N. Chesterfield, Va./Meadowbrook), senior inside linebacker (Waldorf, Md./North Point), and sophomore tight end D.J. Cornish (Felton, Del./Lake Forest) earned first team accolades, while junior wide receiver (Forest Hill, Md./North Harford) and senior center (Fredericksburg, Va./Riverbend/Hampton) were second team selections. Jessop, a finalist for the Harlon Hill award, completed 240-of-294 passes for 3,532 yards and 40 touchdowns. He also rushed 61 times for 355 yards and six scores. He set Shepherd single-season marks for total offense (3,887), passing touchdowns, touchdowns responsible for (47), and points responsible for (282). Jessop ranks second nationally in passing yards, passing yards per game (321.1), passing touchdowns, touchdowns responsible for (47), touchdowns responsible for (47), points responsible for (282), and points responsible for per game (25.6), while ranking third in total offense (353.4). Humphrey, the MEC Defensive Player of the Year, led the Rams with 12.5 sacks (-70 yards) and 20 tackles-for-loss (-89 yards). He also added four forced fumbles and three pass breakups. He is the program's all-time leader in sacks. Hights, who finished third in the Gene Upshaw award balloting, set the Shepherd all-time mark for consecutive starts with 49. He anchored an offensive line that helped Shepherd rank third nationally in scoring offense, fifth in total offense, and seventh in passing offense. Gupton topped the Rams with 87 tackles (60 solos).   • Shepherd Football Clinches MEC Title with Win over Charleston

    SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Senior quarterback Connor Jessop (Ashburn, Va./Broad Run/Virginia Tech) completed 25-of-39 passes for 317 yards and four touchdowns and rushed six times for 67 yards and a score to lead Shepherd University (9-0, 9-0 MEC) to a 49-12 win over Charleston  (3-6, 3-6 MEC) in MEC football action at Ram Stadium on Saturday. The win clinched the MEC title for the Rams. Shepherd took a 7-0 lead when Jessop teamed with sophomore tight end DJ Cornish (Felton, Del./Lake Forest) on a 34-yard scoring strike with 9:00 left in the first quarter. Senior kicker (Berkeley Springs, W.Va./Berkeley Springs) added the extra point. Charleston cut the lead to 7-6 when Daniel Itza raced 71 yards for a score with 8:04 left in the first quarter. The extra point attempt was no good. Shepherd took a 14-6 advantage when Jessop teamed with junior wide receiver Wanya Allen (Sterling, Va./Potomac Falls) on a 26-yard scoring strike with 9:26 left in the second quarter. Colar Kuhns scored on a one-yard sneak with three seconds left in the half to cut the lead to 14-12 at the break. The Rams took a 21-12 lead when Jessop tossed a 16-yard scoring pass to senior running back (Wilmington, Del./St. Mark's) with 13:47  left in the third quarter. Jessop galloped 35 yards for a score with 6:18 left in the third quarter and Lolley raced 56 yards for a touchdown with 1:49 remaining in the quarter to give the Rams a 35-12 lead. Additionally, senior defensive end  (Upper Marlboro, Md./Dr. Henry A. Wise) set the Shepherd career sack mark (36, breaks the old mark of 35 held by Howard Jones, 2010-13) with his sack of Tajuan Green in the second quarter.
