  • Big Second Half Leads Knights Over Griffins

    (Bryson, Neumann) ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University women's basketball team defeated Gwynedd Mercy University 80-63 on Wednesday evening in an Atlantic East Conference matchup.  led three Knights in double-digits with 27 points.  (Caravel) tallied 19 points, including four baskets from downtown.  notched a double-double with 12 points and 16 rebounds.  The teams battled in the first quarter and the Griffins held a slim 17-15 lead after 10 minutes. In the second quarter, the Knights built a lead as many as six, 34-28, with 1:32 left before halftime. Gwynedd Mercy ended the run on a 6-1 run and Neumann held a 35-34 lead at the break. The Knights held the lead throughout the third quarter, but the Griffins remained within five points for most of the quarter. Neumann netted the final five points of the third to extend its lead to eight, 56-48, heading into the final 10 minutes. With a 64-59 Neumann lead midway through the fourth quarter, the Knights went on a 10-2 run to take a double-digit lead, 74-61. Neumann continued to extend its lead over the final minutes to come away with the conference win. Neumann (9-6, 2-1 Atlantic East) will head to Marywood University next Wednesday for a conference doubleheader with the men.   • Women’s Basketball Picks Up First Atlantic East Win

      (Bryson, Neumann) IMMACULATA, Pa. – The Neumann University women's basketball team picked up its first Atlantic East Conference victory with an 81-65 win at Immaculata University on Saturday afternoon.  continues to dominate in the points column and dropped 31 points in the game. The senior added 13 rebounds for another double-double.  also tallied a double-double with 18 points and 10 boards.  (Caravel) netted 11 points. Bryson started the game with a three-points and the Knights took off. Neumann doubled up Immaculata on the scoreboard in the first quarter 22-11. The Knights held a double-digit lead throughout the second quarter and took a 42-26 lead into halftime. The Knights led by as many as 17 in the third quarter. The Mighty Macs battled back to within 10 late in the quarter, but Neumann still took a 57-45 lead into the final 10 minutes. Immaculata pulled to within nine, 62-53, early in the fourth quarter. The Knights then went on an 11-3 run to increase their lead to 73-56 and put the game away. Neumann (8-6, 1-1 Atlantic East) will stay in conference play when it hosts Gwynedd Mercy on Wednesday evening.   • Kulesza Named Atlantic East Player Of The Year

       (St Elizabeths), of the Neumann University field hockey team, was named the first Atlantic East Conference Player of the Year, announced on Tuesday. Kulesza, who was also named First Team All-Conference, led the Atlantic East in points with 24 this season, including 11 goals and two assists. Of her 11 goals, which ranks second in the league, she had four game-winners which was also second best in the Atlantic East.  Neumann finished the season 9-8 overall and 3-2 in Atlantic East action.   • Field Hockey Picks Up Dramatic Win on Senior Night

      (Kulesza, Neumann) ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University field hockey team picked up a thrilling win on Senior Night on Wednesday evening, taking down visiting Wesley College in double overtime by a score of 2-1.Senior  (St Elizabeths) made the most of her senior night, scoring both Neumann goals in the win. picked up the victory in net, stopping two shots in goal.Neumann came out eager to honor its seniors, outshooting the Wolverines by a count of 9-2 in the opening half. The hosts early pressure resulted in the game's first goal just 4:50 into play, as Kulesza ripped home a goal off a feed from  to give the Knights an early 1-0 lead. Neumann had several chances to double its lead late in the half, but could not find the back of the net as the game remained 1-0 heading to halftime.Wesley responded with a much better effort in the second half. Looking to tie the contest up, the Wolverines applied significant pressure in the Neumann end for large stretches of the period. The visitors were finally rewarded for their effort at the 42:33 mark of the second stanza, as they tied the contest up at one apiece and set the stage for a dramatic finish.Neither team could break the dead-lock in regulation, so overtime was needed to break the tie. In a back and forth session that saw both teams create chances, Neumann capitalized on its second shot of the extra session. With just 0:29 seconds left in the first overtime, Kulesza smacked home her second goal of the game to send the Knights home with the win.Neumann (7-6, 4-1 Atlantic East) will now have a week off before facing rival Gwynedd Mercy University next Wednesday, October 24th.   • Softball Hangs on for Sweep of Ravens

      (Sieminski Right, Fallers Right, Neumann) ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University softball team opened the week by taking two Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) contests from Rosemont College on Monday afternoon. The Knights won by scores of 12-0 and 7-4. In the first game,  (Caravel) pitched a two-hit shutout in the 12-0, five inning win. In her 5.0 innings, she allowed the two hits, one walk and struck out seven.  (Padua) went 3-for-4 and knocked in four runs. went 2-for-2, knocked in three runs and scored two. The Knights opened the scoring in the first inning as  singled and scored on a double by Fallers. In the second inning, Fallers knocked in another two runs as the Knights plated four. After scoring another run in the third inning for a 6-0 lead, Neumann doubled its score with six runs in the fourth inning. Sirolli hit a bases-clearing double in the inning. In game two, the Ravens jumped out to a 3-0 lead after three innings.     (Sieminski, Neumann)  (Caravel) of the softball team, was named to the honor roll. She was excellent on the mound for Neumann as the team went 3-1 in CSAC play and 3-3 overall. The sophomore pitcher had a record of 2-1 on the week including a 2-0 record in CSAC wins over Keystone and Clarks Summit.   • Men's Lacrosse Wins Third Straight on Senior Day

      (Newswanger, Left, Gibson Right, Neumann) ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University men's lacrosse team kept its winning ways going on Saturday afternoon on Senior Day, picking up a pivotal 15-6 victory over Rosemont College in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action. led the Neumann attack with six points (4 g, 2 a), while added five points (2 g, 3 a). (3 g) and (2 g) each recorded multi-goal games, while  (St Elizabeths) added a goal and an assist to go along with his team-high 8 ground-balls and 14 faceoff wins.  (Caesar Rodney) and split time in goal, combining for nine saves in the victory. Coming off of two consecutive wins, the Knights were eager to make it three straight on Senior Day. Neumann reeled off four unanswered goals to open the game, capped off by a goal from senior defender to make it 4-0 just 2:45 into the game. Rosemont got a goal back midway through the frame, but an goal at 5:38 gave the Knights a 5-1 lead heading to the second quarter. An Augustine tally early in the second stanza made it 6-1 Knights, but the Ravens used Neumann penalties to their advantage midway through the quarter to get back into the game. Rosemont scored two man-up markers, then followed them up with an even-strength goal late in the half to send the game to halftime with the score at 6-4. Neumann would get back on track early in the third quarter though. After splitting a pair of goals early in the period, the Knights scored four of the game's next five goals to take a commanding 11-6 lead into the final frame. The quarter was punctuated by an Augustine goal with under a second left on the clock off an excellent feed from Blake. As the game moved to the fourth quarter, Neumann continued to roll. The Knights shut the Ravens out in the period and tacked on four more tallies to take home the huge 15-6 win. Shots for the game finished 42-22 in favor of the Knights. Game scores were 8-3 and 4-3.  (Padua) went 3-for-4 with three RBI and two runs scored in the first game. and each had two hits.  (Caravel) picked up the win, going 7.0 innings. She allowed three runs, two earned, on nine hits while striking out five. The Knights jumped on the board early and plated four runs in the first inning. The first two batters reached on walks. Fallers knocked in the first run with a single. hit a two-run double and came around to score on a single by . Neumann added four more runs in the fourth inning for an 8-0 lead. Fallers hit a two-run homerun in the inning. The Falcons scored a run in the fifth and two more in the seventh, but the Knights took the game 8-3. In game two, Neumann again scored early, this time with two runs in the first inning. and Albertson hit back-to-back singles to open the inning. Sperrazza scored on an RBI groundout by Cox while Albertson scored on a single by Kotre'. Cedar Crest scored three unearned runs in the top of the fourth inning to take a 3-2 lead. Korte' walked to lead off the bottom of the fourth and scored the tying run on a single by . Heading into the bottom of the seventh, the teams were still knotted at three. Cox singled and pinch ran. Korte' walked for two runners on with one out. hit a groundball to second base, which was thrown away. Lagroteria took off for home and score the game-winning run. pitched the complete game for the win. She allowed three unearned runs on eight hits and struck out three.   • Men's Lacrosse Cut Down by Cavaliers in CSAC Opener

    (Newswanger Left, Gibson Right, Neumann) RADNOR, Pa. – The Neumann University men's lacrosse team opened Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) play on Thursday afternoon, falling to rival Cabrini University by a score of 24-8. was the standout star for the Knights in the loss, scoring five times to lead both teams on the day. chipped in with two goals and an assist, while added a goal and three assists. also continued his solid play on face-offs winning his 100th draw of the season in the loss. got the start in goal, making 15 saves in net. Neumann faced an uphill battle on the afternoon facing a Cabrini team that had won 108 consecutive CSAC games, as well as the past 17 CSAC titles. The Cavaliers wasted no time looking for number 109, as they scored the opening two goals of the game to take a quick 2-0 lead. Conlon answered back for the Knights at the 10:18 mark, but five unanswered goals from Cabrini put Neumann in a 6-1 hole with 4:29 left to play in the quarter. A second Conlon goal at 4:16 got the Knights back to within four, but two late Cavaliers goals made it 8-2 heading to the second quarter. The Knights tried to keep pace early in the second stanza, trading two goals apiece with Cabrini to start the quarter, but the Cavaliers imposed their will after that. The hosts notched seven straight goals late in the half to take a commanding 17-4 lead into halftime. Neumann battled in the second half, holding the Cavaliers to just two goals in the third quarter while scoring two goals of its own. Unfortunately for the visitors, they could not keep up that effort into the fourth and final frame, conceding five more Cabrini tallies as the Cavaliers took home the 24-8 win.
