On the Pitch -Week 3 Top Ten Soccer Rankings

The soccer season continued with some great match ups last week including a Division 2 championship rematch as St Andrew’s hosted defending champion Sussex Academy.  The Saints scored a pair of second half goals to defeat the Seahawks 3-1 to remain undefeated.  Here are the updated rankings as  we head into October.

Division 1

No. 1  St George’s Tech (6-0)  The Hawks picked up wins over Christiana and Sanford last week.  They travel to Caravel tonight and Delcastle on Thursday.

No. 2 Cape Henlopen (7-0)  The Vikings picked up a pair of 3-1 wins over Indian River and Smyrna. They host Polytech on Tuesday and Brandywine on Friday.

No. 3  Sallies (2-2)  Sallies lost 4-0 to the nation’s number one team St Benedict Prep.  They host LaSalle College on Tuesday and Tower Hill on Thursday.   

No. 4. Appoquinimink (4-2)  The Jags picked up a pair of wins over Caravel and William Penn.  They host Tatnall on Tuesday and travel to Odessa on Thursday. 

No. 5 Caesar  Rodney (5-1)  The defending champs bounced back last week with a pair of wins over Lake Forest and Sussex Central after their loss to Appoquinimink. They host Smyrna on Tuesday before traveling to Indian River on Thursday. 

No. 6 Sussex Central (4-1)  The Golden Knights went 1-1 last week with a win over Odessa before the lost to Caesar Rodney.  They host Sussex Tech and Worcester Prep this week. 

No. 7 Wilmington Charter (4-1-3)  The Force picked up a pair of ties with Malvern Prep and Newark Charter. They have the week off but their next game is at Sallies on October 7th 

No. 8 Middletown (3-2)  The Cavs went 1-1 last week with a loss to Wilmington Charter before a huge conference win over Delcastle. They host MOT Charter on Tuesday before traveling to Hodgson on Thursday.

No. 9. Delcastle (5-1-1)  The Cougars went 1-1 last week with a win over Wilmington Christian before the loss to Middletown.  They host Saint Mark’s on Tuesday and St George’s Tech on Thursday.

 No. 10 Smyrna (4-2)  The Eagles had a tough week losing a pair of games to Woodbridge and Cape Henlopen. They have a tough week as they travel to Caesar Rodney on Tuesday and St Andrew’s on Thursday. 

Division 2

No. 1 St Andrew’s (8-0) The Saints picked up a pair of 3-1 wins over the No. 2 and No. 3 teams Sussex Academy and Friends.  They travel to Sanford on Tuesday and host Smyrna on Thursday. 

No. 2 Sussex Academy (5-1)  The Seahawks went 1-1 last week with a win over Sts Peter &Paul and the loss at St Andrew’s.  They travel to Delmar on Tuesday and host Dover on Thursday. 

No. 3 Friends (4-2)   The Quakers went 1-1 last week against top 5 teams with a win over Tower Hill and the loss to St Andrew’s. They host Aspira on Tuesday and Tatnall on Saturday.

No. 4. Tower Hill (3-2-1)  The Hillers went 1-1 last week with a tough 2-1 loss against No. 3 Friends before defeating Tatnall.  They host Archmere tonight before traveling to Sallies on Saturday. 

No. 5 Saint Mark’s (5-1)  The Spartans went 2-0 last week with a pair of wins over Newark Charter and Archmere.  They travel to Delcastle on Tuesday and host Caravel on Thursday night. 

No. 6 Sanford (4-2-1)  The Warriors went 1-1 last week with a win over Odyssey Charter and a loss to St George’s Tech.  They host No. 1 St Andrew’s on Tuesday and travel to Wilmington Christian on Saturday.

No. 7 Concord (5-1-1)  The Raiders went 1-1 last week with a win over Howard and a lost on Dover.  They host Mckean on Tuesday and Christiana on Friday. 

No. 8 Indian River (5-1-2)  The Indians went 1-1 last week with a loss to Cape Henlopen and defeating Delmar.  They host Caesar Rodney on Thursday 

No. 9 Lake Forest (3-2-2)   The Spartans went 1-1 last week with a loss against Caesar Rodney before a win over Woodbridge.  They host Laurel on Tuesday before traveling to Sussex Tech on Thursday.  

 No. 10 Aspira (4-0-1)  They went 1-0-1 last week with a tie vs Odyssey Charter before they defeated Red Lion.  They travel to Friends on Tuesday and St Elizabeth’s on Friday.

This week is filled with top 10 matchups that I can’t wait to see.  This has been one of the best seasons of soccer with a lot of top match ups being decided by one goal.
