We are heading into week 5 and not much has changed in our Top 10 Rankings. We did have two teams swap spot with a big Top 5 matchup that went 5 sets last week.
Top 10
No. 1 Tower Hill (10-1). The Hillers are rolling, having won five straight as this week begins. In their 10 wins, they have lost a total of two sets, and both of those came in the same match at Archmere. Next: at Padua, Friday, Oct. 17th
No. 2 Archmere (11-2). After a near upset of top-ranked Tower Hill on Sept. 30, the Auks hit the road and won three straight games, including a five-setter at then No. 3 Saint Mark’s and a sweep of No. 6 Appoquinimink. Two home matches remain, and a Diamond State Athletic Conference championship is possible. Next: vs. MOT Charter, Tuesday, Oct. 14
No. 3 Newark Charter (10-1). Senior Kennedy Pavlekovich has spearheaded the Patriots’ surge after a five-set loss at Padua on Oct. 2. Newark Charter posted a come-from-behind win against Saint Mark’s, a match that showcased their deep roster. Next: vs. St. Elizabeth, Wednesday, Oct. 15th
No. 4 Saint Mark’s (8-3). Each of the Spartans’ three losses have come in five sets, so if you want to beat Saint Mark’s, be prepared to stick around a while. The Spartans finish the regular season with four straight games at home, including on Friday against Delaware Military in the SL24 Serving Up Support game that continues Saturday with four more matches for a good cause. Next: vs. Caravel, Tuesday, Oct. 14th
No. 5 Caesar Rodney (11-0). The undefeated Riders continue to get the job done and will clinch the Henlopen North title with a win at Cape Henlopen on Thursday. They can’t get ahead of themselves, however, as a talented Lake Forest team visits before that. Next: vs. Lake Forest, Tuesday, Oct. 14th
No. 6 Appoquinimink (9-2). The Jaguars bounced back nicely from consecutive losses with two wins, although their closing stretch comes against some tough competition, and three of their remaining four are on the road. The Blue Hen Conference Flight A title is in reach. Next: vs. Cape Henlopen, Wednesday, Oct. 15th
No. 7 Padua (6-5). Padua has had a week off since their last match, which gives the Pandas some valuable practice time late in the season. A brutal schedule continues through the end of the regular season, so the Pandas should be ready for the tournament. Next: vs. Garnet Valley (Pa.), Tuesday, Oct. 14th
No. 8 Lake Forest (9-2). We see you, Lake Forest. These Spartans have lost to two Henlopen North teams but are one of just two to hang a loss on Dover this season. They’ll face No. 5 Caesar Rodney before turning their attention back to the Henlopen South, with a conference title firmly in reach. Next: at Caesar Rodney, Tuesday, Oct. 14th
No. 9 Caravel (8-2). The Buccaneers had a victory at Archmere in sight last week before the Auks rallied for the reverse sweep. The Bucs need to put that out of their minds as their schedule — already tough — takes an even more difficult turn. Next: at Saint Mark’s, Tuesday, Oct. 14th
No. 10 Dover (9-3). The Senators will hit the road for their final three matches of the regular season as another successful year continues. Dover may not have been the loudest team out there this year, but they’ll have a chance to change that in the state tournament. Next: at Sussex Tech, Thursday, Oct. 16th
