Two Delaware high school standouts Dante Trader Jr. and Saleem Wormley have landed themselves in professional football camps after the Draft Weekend. Delmar’s Dante Trader Jr. was drafted by the Miami Dolphins and was able to hear his name called. Wormley was signed as an undrafted free agent signing with the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Trader is a former quarterback for the Delmar Wildcats where he helped them win the 2017 state championship. He then transferred to play at McDonogh (MD) before he went on to play his college football at the University of Maryland. Dante played four seasons for the Terps earning numerous honors throughout those years. Which put him in a few NFL teams’ radars.
Trader was drafted by the Miami Dolphins in the 5th round at pick number 155 as a Safety/Defensive Back. Bleacher Reported that Trader “is a versatile safety from Maryland who brings athleticism and strong run support to the field. Standing at 5 ’11 “, 202 pounds, Trader is known for his quick feet, versatility and physicality, making him a valuable asset in both the coverage and run games. His ability to read plays and react quickly positions him as a high-level backup with the potential to develop into an NFL starter.”
Dante seems to have what it takes in the NFL since they are projecting him as a potential starter. The only dilemma trader may have is he is a dual sports athlete at the University of Maryland where he plays Lacrosse as well for the Terps. He could also hear his name called in the Premier Lacrosse League (PLL).
Saleem Wormely from Smyrna high was a team captain as a senior and helped the Eagles to back-to-back state championships. Saleem played his college football for the Penn State Nittany Lions and had been the starting right guard for the past two seasons. After the draft the Jaguars signed Wormley an undrafted free agent.
Wormley has “the prototypical guard build for the next level, using his 6’3″, 335-pound frame to displace defenders in the run game and drop his anchor in pass protection,” according to OnwardState.com
Congratulations to both players on their success to make their dreams of being an NFL football player come true. We hope they have a healthy rookie camp and come out of camp on their prospective teams opening day rosters.
