Lewes native and Cape Henlopen alumni Mason Fluharty made his Major League Baseball debut for the Toronto Blue Jays. Mason pitched one inning throwing fourteen pitches allowing one hit while striking out one batter.
Fluharty was born and raised in Lewes, DE where he played his high school baseball at Cape Henlopen. He was part of the 2018 state championship team before graduating in 2019. Mason went on to play his college baseball at Liberty University.
He was drafted by the Toronto Blue Jays in the fifth round of the 2022 MLB draft. After spending the last few seasons in the Minors, Fluharty was called up to the big leagues on March 30th just in time for the beginning of the major league season.
Mason joins a few other Delaware baseball natives on major league teams this season. Chad Kuhl (Atlanta), Brandon Walter Boston), Jake Fraley (Cincinnati), Zack Gelof (Oakland).
