Conrad’s ace pitcher Brady Wardell pitched five and two-thirds innings of scoreless baseball as the Red Wolves shutout their conference rival DMA Seahawks. Wardell gave up one hit striking out seven batters while walking just one for the victory. Brady told us “We haven’t beat DMA since my freshman year. So it feels awesome, but it’s early in the year so we can get complacent.”

DMA’s ace Charlie Porter Jr. was matching Wardell pitch for pitch before the Conrads offense finally got to him. Porter allowed five hits and four runs (one earned) over six innings, striking out two and walking one for the Seahawks. The Red Wolves finally got on the board in the bottom of the sixth inning scoring all four of their runs.

Jacob Debeof led off the inning with a single, but reached third quickly on a sacrifice and a wild pitch. Max Hansen then hit a deep fly ball to sacrifice Debeof in to take the 1-0 lead. Back to back singles from Justin O’Connor and AJ Shute put runners on first and second. On a double steal both runners advanced a base putting them both on scoring position.

O’Connor scored on an error committed by DMA which allowed Sawyer De Luca to reach safely and advanced Shute to third. Dylan Purring then put the game away, crushing a double to the fence that scored Shute and De Luca to cap off the scoring for the Red Wolves.

Jon Downes threw one and one-third innings of scoreless ball for Conrad in relief of Wardell. He didn’t allow a single hit while striking out none and walking one to close out the game.

Sammy Diaz-Martinez went 1 for 3 at the plate to lead the DMA Seahawks in hits.
