Delaware Military Academy scored a run in the bottom of the sixth inning on a Charlie Porter RBI single to tie the game at 5-5 against the visiting Sussex Central Golden Knights. Central then answered the run from DMA with three of their own in the top of the seventh for the 8-5 victory.
Central scored three runs on three hits in the top half of the inning to break open the tied game. Gage Wilkins got the scoring started as he singled home Dylan Briggs who had reached on an error. Chet Furmanek followed Briggs with a big double that scored two Joaquin Rodriguez who walked and Briggs both crossed the plate. Chris Hall capped the inning off with an RBI single which scored pinch runner Caleb Rogers.
Relief pitcher Cole Swain got the win for Central as struck out the side in the bottom of the seventh to secure the victory. Swain entered the game in the fourth to relieve starting pitcher Joaquin Rodriguez. Rodriguez threw four and one third innings, but did not factor into the decision.
The lead had changed hands a few times in this game as the bats were hot for both teams. Each team collected 11 hits a piece in the game with a total of 22. Central’s Chet Furmanek led the way with 3 hits in four at bats and collected 3 RBI’s. Wilkins and Rodriguez each had two hits a piece and Brandon Tidwell hit a two run homerun for the Golden Knights.
JJ Pankowski led the Seahawks at the plate with 2 hits and 2 RBI’s. Colin Mclaughlin, Charlie Porter, and Sammy Diaz-Martinez each collected two hits for DMA. Emmett Robinson tripled and added an RBI.
