DMA gets the win over William Penn at Frawley Stadium
No. 7 Delaware Military Academy (DMA) was able to capture a 2-1 victory over the William Penn Colonials in front of a large crowd at the home of the Wilmington Blue Rocks. The game featured two of the top teams in the state as well as two of the top pitchers which gave the game a playoff like atmosphere.
Both teams’ aces were on the mound as DMA’s Charlie Porter faced off against John Grybowski from William Penn. Both pitchers were All-State players last season and will be up for the accolade again this season. Porter got the victory, allowing six hits and one run over five innings, walking one and striking out seven batters. Grybowski took the loss, but threw a complete game surrendering two runs on seven hits, walking two and striking out eight batters. .
Both pitchers had strong nights on the hill as anticipated, but the difference was a big hit in the bottom of the fourth inning. JJ Pankowski of DMA reached on an infield single then stole second base. With two outs and a 2-2 count Dane Dipalo singled to right field driving in Pankowski from second base giving the Seahawks the 2-1 lead that proved to be the game winning run.
Dipaolo, Pankowski, Porter, Sammy Diaz-Martinez, Kellen Roberts, Emmett Robinson, and Colin McLaughlin each collected one hit for DMA. JJ knocked in a run and scored a run while Dipalo also added an RBI. Hunter DiCarlantonio earned the save pitching to scoreless innings in relief.
Mikey Baker led Penn going 3-for-4 with a triple and an RBI. Colby Gilbert and Shawn Roy each collected multiple hits for Colonials
