The St. Georges Hawks visited the William Penn Colonials in an early season conference clash. The game was played at Wilmington University’s Wilson field as the No. 6 Colonials hosted the Hawks. Both teams came into this game with a 1-0 record playing their second game of the season.
The Colonials led 5-4 heading into the top of the seventh inning. The Hawks with their backs to the wall were able to score six runs on six hits to take a 10-5 lead over the Colonials. The hits started with back to back singles from Logan Burns and Greg Overby. Followed by a double from Julien Velazquez that gave the Hawks the lead for the first time in the game. Noah Wegman then singled to reach safely followed by two big triples from Donovan Boulden and Brayden Fields to cap off the six run inning from Hawks.
Winning pitcher Joseph Russo was able to get the first two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning before Shawn Foster relieved him to get the final out to close out the game. William Penn was able to add a single run as the Hawks defeated them 10-6.
Boulden went 3-4 at the plate with 2 runs scored and 1 batted in. Fields, Burns, Overby, and Noah Wegman each added two hits a piece for St Georges. Fields led the team with 3 runs batted in.
Shawn Roy led the Colonials with 3 hits scoring 2 runs and 1 batted in. Juston Weidner and Pete Wilson each added two hits a piece.
