The Cape Henlopen Vikings baseball team defeated the reigning state champions the Salesianum Sals to advance to the 2025 state championship. Cape Henlopen defeated the Sals 9-2 led by Jase Mitchell at the plate and Brad Marks on the Mound.
The Vikings amassed 11 hits in the game with Mitchell leading the way with 3 hits at the plate. Mitchell singled in the first inning in his first at bat of the game. His second at bat he got the Vikings on the board in the third inning hitting a solo home run to right field that just cleared the right field foul pole. Jase then tripled in the fourth inning, knocking in two more runs for the Vikings. Mitchell ended the game going 3 for 3 with 3 RBI’s and scoring two runs.
Jase told us “I feel like I was seeing the ball well really today. I knew when I got a fastball I was not gonna miss it. My teammates got on the whole game and put me in really good positions to hit.”
Marks earned the win for the Vikings pitching 6 scoreless innings. He gave up his 2 earned runs in the top of the seventh inning before being relieved by Jacob Smith who closed the game out recording the last 3 outs. Marks gave up 4 hits and 2 runs over 6 innings while striking out 5 batters and walking 5.
The Vikings also played excellent defense behind Marks only commiting one error. Right fielder
Emmett Wheatley made a couple catches that saved a few runs for the Vikings. Offensively Brady Kosc, Johnson, and Wheatley each collected multiple hits for Cape.
Jude Swift, Matt McSorley, Michael Dell’Oso, Chase Holston, and Cole Graham each collected one hit for Salesianum.
Cape Henlopen advances to the 2025 DIAA Baseball state championship and will face the Conrad Red Wolves this Sunday June 1st at Frawley Stadium. Game time is set for 7pm
