The Sanford Warriors and the Dover Senators will face off in the DIAA Boys Basketball state championship for the first time since 2020 in a game that never got played. Both teams had advanced to the championship, but Covid hit and shut down the world. That game will be forever talked about since it was never played.
Sanford had defeated Dover in the 2019 so the rematch in 2020 was a very highly anticipated rematch. These two teams are not the same teams as 2020, but I am sure these players and coaches are very familiar with the history between them.
Sanford advanced with a semifinal win over St. Elizabeths 54-4 in the early game Friday night. The Warriors pretty much led wire-to-wire in this game jumping out to an early lead while never looking back. Khareem Hart led the way with 21 points, while Jayden Taylor added 14.
In the late game St Georges Hawks and Dover needed overtime to decide a winner. In overtime the defending state champs were able to pull away from the Hawks with a 71-57 win. The Senators were led by Chase Little who scored a game high 17 points.
The Championship game is set to play Sunday March 9th at 1pm at the Bob Carpenter Center on the campus of the University of Delaware. Best of luck to both teams.
