It has been three years since the Caravel Buccaneers have been crowned DIAA Girls Basketball State Champions. In 2022 the Buccaneers needed overtime to capture the title, but this year was a different story. Caravel the No. 1 seed defeated the No.7 seed St. Elizabeth’s Vikings 53-47 to capture the 2025 State Championship.

Caravel was in complete control of this game having only trailed the Vikings 2-0 as St Elizabths scored the first two points of the game. Caravel was able to impose their will the rest of the game. The Buccaneers largest lead of the game was 21 points which came early in the fourth quarter. They shot an astonishing 50 percent from the floor (19-38) and the three point line (5-10).

Junior Brycelyn Styckning’s red hot shooting helped bolster the offensive stats for the Buccaneers. Styckning scored 14 points while shooting 5-6 from the floor and went 3-3 from the three point line. She was joined by senior Chasity (Speedy) Wilson in double figures as she led all scorers with 17 points.

Styckning told us “Last year against Ursuline I was in foul trouble because I could only play down low. This summer I worked on expanding my game outside on the perimeter and I feel like that made me a threat. Once I started hitting a couple that opened it up for everyone else.”

This is the second title in four years for the Buccaneers after winning it in 2022. It was also their third trip to the championship in the last four years after falling to Ursuline last season.
