Salesianum Sals Robbie (RJ) Johnson had his best game of the season in his final regular season home game of his career after being honored on Senior night. Johnson has already committed to play football at Rutgers University next year in college. Johnson led all scorers as Salesianum defeated St. Georges 65-59 in a game that needed double overtime to decide a winner. cribe

The Hawks had led for most of the game and at one point in the third quarter they had their largest lead as they took a twelve point lead 37-25. That’s when the game seemed to get a little chippy as the two teams had to be separated a few times and a couple technicals were issued. That seemed to have sparked the Sals and Johnson.

The two sports athlete didn’t want his regular basketball season game of his career to be a disappointment as he willed his presence on the St George’s Hawks. Johnson led all scorers with 30 points as Salesianum erased the deficit to continue their win streak.

The Sals have played the toughest schedule in the state as they started off the season 1-9. They now are 8-11 on the season currently riding a four game win streak over Saint Marks, Odessa, Tower Hill, and No. 7 St. Georges. Other notable wins are against No. 8 Middletown, and No. 3 Sanford. The Sals end the regular season with a trip to play No. 2 Dover this Monday Feb. 17th at 1pm.

As the regular season ends with the postseason right around the corner the Salesianum resume will put them in the state tournament. With their current wins and if they can pull off the win over Dover the Sals have the potential to be a top eight seed which means they get a first round bye.
