Salesianum wins the D1 Dual Team Wrestling State Championship with victory over Sussex Central
The Salesianum Sals were crowned the D1 Wrestling State Championship with a 43-28 victory over the Sussex Central Golden Knights. The Sals were the No. 1 seed while the Golden Knights were the No. 3 seed in this year’s tournament. It was the second time these two schools faced off in less than a month. Unfortunately for Sussex Central the Sals defeated them again to capture the title.
The Sals got four pins in the match from Gardner Hall (150), Brayden Ranauto (215), Cameron Black (285), and Dominic Lucian (126) while. Sals Ricky Jewell got a tech fall with a 17-2 victory, while Ben Ranauto added a major with a 13-2 victory.
The Golden Knights got a pin from Ben Lee while Malachi Stratton added a major with a 12-4 victory. They also added three forfeits Evan Cordrey (132), Peyton Conaway (138), and Justin Craig (144).
The Sals and Golden knights faced off in a regular season final on Feb. 8th with almost the same score. Salesianum won that match with a 48-20 score which solidified an undefeated in state regular season for the Sals. In the tournament they also defeated Sussex Tech and William Penn to remain undefeated in state for the entire season. Their only two losses came to Malvern Prep (PA), and Council Rock North (PA), both out of state teams.
