Six of the eight top seeded teams in the DIAA Dual Meet State Championships won their quarterfinal match to advance to the state semifinals at Smyrna High School. Wm. Penn in Division I and Indian River in Division II were both seeded fifth and won their quarterfinal match on the road to advance.
Division I
Salesianum 62 – Sussex Tech 13
The Sals used eight pins winning 11 of 14 bouts in their quarterfinal win over the Ravens. Gabe Campanelli (113), Zach Derbyshire (120), Dominic Lucian (126), Garrett Till (138), Ben Ranauto (175), Brayden Ranauto (190) and Cameron Black (285) all had pins for Salesianum.
Mason Catania (106) recorded a technical fall for Salesianum while Dustin Elliott (157) had a technical fall for Sussex Tech.
Salesianum will meet Wm. Penn in the semifinals at 4:00PM.
Wm. Penn 34 – Smyrna 30
Tony Trotta won a 9-6 decision at 120 pounds to clinch the match for the Colonials on Thursday night advancing Wm. Penn to the Division I semifinals.
Wm. Penn got pins from Jason Hughart (157), Camar Miller (165) and Eli Juarquin-Torres (285).
Warren Coates (138) and Mason Schulenburg (215) recorded pins for the Eagles while Jamen Haliburton (106) had a technical fall.
Wm. Penn will face Salesianum in the semifinals at 4:00PM.
Sussex Central 51 – Cape Henlopen 17
Sussex Central won 10 of 14 bouts on Friday night as they advanced to the semifinals with their 51-17 win over Cape Henlopen.
Austen Decker (106), Evan Cordrey (132), Ben Lee (175), Jimmy McLane (190) and Ivan Flores (215) all recorded pins for the Golden Knights. Malachi Stratton (120), Justin Craig (144) and John Rovillard (157) each had technical falls.
Patrick Donahue (285) had a pin for the Vikings while Nick Walker (150) had a technical fall.
Sussex Central will face Caesar Rodney in the semifinals at 4:00PM.
Caesar Rodney 46 – St. Georges 17
Caesar Rodney won 10 of the 14 bouts including four pins as they defeated St. Georges 46-17 on Friday night to advance in the Division I dual meet state tournament.
Cole Moffett (120), Alex Batton (126), Craig Dixon (165) and Tristan Cooper (285) had pins for the Riders. Ben Donato (106) recorded a technical fall.
Russell Lloyd (132) had a pin for the Hawks and Gavin Sheehan (138) had a technical fall.
Caesar Rodney will face Sussex Central in the semifinals at 4:00PM.
Division II
Delaware Military 70 – McKean 10
Delaware Military recorded 10 pins while winning 12 of 14 bouts on Friday night in their 70-10 Division II quarterfinal win over McKean.
Cole Perrin (106), Tyler DelCollo (120), Nicholas Papiro (126), Gavin Mundy (132), Piero Papili (138), Jackson Grandel (144), Charles Perrin (150), Justin Ryland (165), Chase Henning (175) and Cael DeNigris (285) had pins for the Seahawks.
Vaughn Brooks (215) had a pin for the Highlanders.
Delaware Military will meet Indian River in the semifinals at 2:00PM.
Indian River 38 – Lake Forest 37
Blake Whittington got a pin in the final bout of the night in 5:05 second to give Indian River a narrow 38-37 victory in their Division II quarterfinal match against Lake Forest.
Each team won seven bouts, but the Indians recorded five pins, a forfeit and a technical fall to win the match.
Hobe Givens (126), Whittington (132), Nathan McCarra (138), Luis Hicks (150) had pins for Indian River while Jayvion Chandler (190) recorded a technical fall.
Mason Farrell (113), Jerusalem Howard (144), Ian Nance (165), Charles Troutman (175) and Matthew Cannon (285) all had pins for the Spartans.
Indian River will face Delaware Military in the semifinals at 2:00PM.
Laurel 39 – First State Military 38
Zeke O’Hara recorded a first period pin in the night’s final bout as the Bulldogs edged First State Military on Friday night in the Division II quarterfinals.
Each team won seven bouts with Laurel getting pins from Nathan Moore (113), O’Hara (132), Landon Messick (144) and Kenyen Littleton (150). Stanley Pete (165) had a technical fall.
First State Military got pins from Aiden Cykosky (126), Josh Jollah (175), Michael Benton (190), Jarrett Waltz (215) and Jonythan Bailey (285). Mason Milligan had a technical fall.
Laurel will face St. Mark’s in the semifinals at 2:00PM.
St. Mark’s 54 – Woodbridge 23
St. Mark’s won 10 of the 14 bouts with seven pins as the Spartans won their Division II quarterfinal match 54-23 over the Blue Raiders.
The Spartans got pins from Clif Bakhsh (126), Aaron Menickella (132), Jacob Ebaugh (165), Finn Hanna (175), Luke Spoor (190) Shane Montgomery (215) and Chris McKenna (285). Anthony Black (150) recorded a technical fall for St. Mark’s.
Cooper Kerrick (106), Gunner Scoles (113), and Andrew Almafitano (138) had pins for Woodbridge while Tre’Vaughn Gorham (126) recorded a technical fall.
St. Mark’s will face Laurel in the semifinals at 2:00PM.
